Understanding LAPS

Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) is a complimentary tool from Microsoft that randomizes the local administrator password on each managed Windows endpoint. This password, along with its expiry date, is securely stored in Active Directory attributes, accessible only to authorized accounts. LAPS effectively mitigates the risks associated with lateral movement and privilege escalation attacks, such as "Pass the hash."
